RAINS, SUN AND SKIN

The weather nowadays is unpredictable; it’s hot, sorry extremely hot and humid at one minute and it starts raining the next moment. It’s a tedious task to protect skin during such conditions…

SUN’S RAYS

The first and the most effective product during such weather conditions is the SPF. It is very important to know about it as it is one of the deciding factors for a healthy skin. There are two types of sun’s rays which reach the earth: UVB and UVA. UVB rays cause immediate damage to your skin. These rays are responsible for tanning or burning of your skin. UVA rays are those that are responsible for aging of your skin and are able to reach your skin through clouds, smog or glass.

WHAT IS SPF

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and refers to the theoretical amount of time you can stay in the sun without getting sunburned. For example, an SPF of 15 would allow you to stay in the sun 15 times longer than you could without protection. So, if your skin starts to redden in 20 minutes without sunblock, applying a product with SPF 15 increases that time by a factor of 15, meaning you could stay in the sun for 300 minutes. In addition, a higher SPF blocks out more rays — a product with an SPF of 15 will filter out approximately 93 percent of UVB rays; SPF 30 filters out about 97 percent.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT PRODUCT

Choosing the sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB. Look for products containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide because they protect against the full spectrum of UVA rays
